A Review of the Most Awaited Day in History D21-2012: The Grains of Truth and an Expose´of Those Who Obscured It

At the root of most everything said about the “Mayan Calendar’s end” is a grain of truth. And we have reason to celebrate because the most significant and relevant grains have sprouted and are taking vigorous root. The most awaited day in history came and went, and the mainstream media had a back slapping field day acknowledging that the “Mayan Apocalypse” had failed to materialize. All of the ridicule, delusions, fear and false hopes associated with December 21st, 2012 falls squarely on the shoulders of spiritual charlatans and pseudo-scientists, and their naive and scientifically illiterate audiences. The non-events of December 21st, 2012 should be a wake up call to the self-proclaimed spiritually awakened. And in particular to the faithful followers of the late Jose Arguelles, Carl Johan Calleman, Graham Hancock, Greg Braden, Mitch Battros, David Wilcox and Patrick Geryl. Those of you who follow Arguelles know about all of the magical things he predicted would happen on December 21st, 2012. Specifics further down. In order to distinguish himself Calleman invented his own Mayan Calendar end for October 28, of 2011, and he went as far as too predict that “global humanity will attain nondualistic enlightened consciousness by the end of October 2011. It will simply not be possible not to be enlightened after October 28, 2011″ ~ Carl Calleman Even Daniel Pinchbeck, author of The Return of Quetzalcoatl, still clings to the claim that December 21st, was a “hinge point — in a shift of planetary consciousness.” The phrase shift or transformation of consciousness must be the knock out buzz phrase for the New Age/spiritual/mystical community. All of the authors mentioned, including John Major Jenkins...

The Universal Meaning of 2012 and the Mayan Calendar. The Mythos, Astronomy and Sociology of 2012-MC

Dec 22 2011

On the Universal Significance of December 21st, 2012 World Centering and World Renewing   The question about the year 2012 and in particular December 21st, is not— what’s going to happen— but rather what are we going to make happen !! A Spanish version of this article is available. The Legend of 2012 is all about the social realm!   “Dark as the hour may appear, we exist in a dimension of greater opportunity, freedom, and possibility than has ever been.” ~ Terrence McKenna Based on the fantastic pace of change, the decay of the old world system and the macro-trends already set in motion, it does indeed look like the “end of the world” as we know it is upon us. We are witnessing the emergence of a new culture, or the birth of a planetary culture. The great mythologist Joseph Campbell said that the next stage of human cultural evolution would be dependent upon the creation of the planetary mythos. The planetary mythos is nothing less than the presently unfolding story of how humanity’s collective yearning for a better world is turned into reality via a collective movement to save the planet and her inhabitants from the clutches of the Current World System. It is the story of how we as a whole outgrew our straight jackets of tradition, fear, ethnocentrism, self-absorption, and apathy, to embrace the worldview of a cooperative Planetary Culture. “Myths are public dreams, dreams are private myths.” ~ Joseph Campbell   A Planetary Culture would be characterized by the following attributes. Direct democracy Ecological sensitivity Evidence based policies Gender balance-respect Diplomacy and cooperation Government transparency Incorruptible monetary system Cross cultural unity...

Origins of the 2012 Mythos: The Question of 2012 and the Marvels of the Mayan Calendar

Origins of the 2012 Mythos: The Question of 2012 and the Marvels of the Mayan Calendar

Mythic and Scientific Investigations into the Nature of Reality and its Recurrent Themes My study of Maya Calendrics (MC) has enabled me to understand why MC is regarded by the Maya as some sort of divinitory or forecasting device. For now I will say that Maya Calendrics is indeed capable of functioning as such, but we must substitute the “prediction of specific events” with the “prediction of thematic content.”  More on this further down. Every assertion made by Argüelles in The Mayan Factor regarding 2012 is his interpretation of a two-line “prophecy” phrase, and his assessment of the human and planetary condition. Argüelles is certain that the meaning of 2012 is the demise of a world governed by subjugation, and the birth of a new world based on cooperation toward the common good. How much of what is said about Maya Calendrics and 2012 is valid, and if so, what are the claims based upon? At the present moment and in the English speaking world Argüelles is the most enigmatic among the more popular Maya calendrical and 2012 phenomena researchers. His supra-mystical presentation of Maya calendrics, and his many failed predictions has led to his loss of credibility as a reputable researcher. But his failure as prophet does not mean he is wrong about his interpretation of Maya Calendrics, nor his assessment of the likeliest meaning behind Dec. 21, 2012, the day the Maya Long Count cycle of 5125.26 years ends and restarts. Three other well known researchers on the subject of Maya Calendrics and 2012 come to mind. They are John Major Jenkins, Carl Johann Calleman, and Daniel Pinchbeck. I regard Jenkins as...

Imperial Civilization Has Run Its Course: The Birth of a Planetary Culture is Upon Us

Imperial Civilization Has Run Its Course: The Birth of a Planetary Culture is Upon Us

Sep 15 2009

Only the most superficial details about Mesoamerican Calendrics (MAC) have been popularized as the now infamous Mayan Calendar and its cycle renewal date of Dec. 21, 2012.  [Note: this article was originally published on my Emergent-Culture website on September 15, 2009] The poorly informed and opportunistic have attributed many erroneous meanings to the “end of the Mayan calendar” cycle. The general and popular misconception is one of spectacular natural catastrophe. From my vantage point, the catastrophe is upon us, and it’s called Western Civilization version 1.0, gasping for its last few breaths as it strives to maintain the status quo at all costs. What more calamity do we need in order to recognize that the world as a whole is in the grips of a serious and unprecedented socio-environmental crisis? You might ask how is the world crisis, the sunspot cycle, 2012 and the MAC system related. The Theme In short MAC calendrics is about the tracking and study of subtle and overt natural cycles, and their accompanying themes. Recurring themes that happen at every scale of the energy-matter spectrum. For example, cell division is the thematic equivalence of a woman giving birth, a couple separating, or a business opening another branch. Those examples are acute transitional stages in the process of life’s unfolding, and they are characterized by hyper-activity and some distress. There are many other themes, but the theme particular to the present time is crisis. Crisis implies the search for resolution and relief. Transformation, birth, rebirth, emergence (emergency), and transition are themes closely related to crisis and resolution. Critical Junctures December 21, 2012 is the day a Mayan time cycle of...
